Bubble tea: an uncommon drink with lots of variet
If you find yourself tired of the same old lattes and frappachinos that you gulp down every morning and night, here is a recommendation for something you might never have heard of - bubble tea!
What in the world is bubble tea, you might ask yourself?
Bubble tea: a sweet flavored tea beverage, normally served cold, containing tapioca pearls at the bottom of the cups, which you suck through a big straw.
The tapioca pearls, also known as bubbles or boba, have a Gummi Bear-like consistency.
This interesting drink is said to have originated from Taiwan and spread throughout the world including Canada and China Town in New York City. Little shops have since opened up in many cities throughout the U.S. Yet, bubble tea is still not commonly known.
Tea flavors range from place to place. My Bubble Tea, a family owned business located on Sheridan Drive in Amherst, serves many different kinds of flavors. They have both creamy and juicy options.
Creamy bubble tea is made by using a flavored dairy or non-dairy creamer mixed with green tea (though other places offer different tea options such as black tea). As for juicy bubble tea, it is made by mixing a fruit syrup with green tea.
Some of the flavor options at My Bubble Tea are creamy green tea, creamy French vanilla, juicy mango, juicy passion fruit, juicy peach and juicy green apple. Plus, at My Bubble Tea they allow you to mix flavors. One of my own personal favorites is a juicy passion fruit and mango. A large bubble tea costs $5.40, but a student discount is offered with college id.
