Men's Hockey and Soccer Updates
The men’s hockey team has a fierce weekend coming their way. On Oct. 29 at 7:05 p.m. the Purple Eagles go head-to-head against the Mercyhurst Lakers for the first time. The NU players will play against their new opponents in it is their first year as a member of the Atlantic Hockey Association.
On Oct. 30 NU will take on the Robert Morris Colonials.
Senior Purple Eagle Ryan Annesley says, “I would say we are more excited than nervous to play Mercyhurst and to finally get some inner-conference games under our belts.” He also says “If we play our systems and the way we know we can, we are confident we can play with any team in the nation.”
Annesley’s teammate, Paul Zanette, would agree. “We are going to stick to playing Niagara hockey, which has been successful for us in the past.”
NU’s game against Robert Morris the following day is sure to be a heated one.
“As for Robert Morris, there is a small rivalry between us so we are excited to get the chance to play them early this year, they do have a good record and are coming off a big win against Ohio State, so we know they will be riding a high,” said Zanette.
“I would like to encourage all the students and faculty of Niagara University to come out and support us as we begin our in- conference play at home against two strong competitors,” he added.
NU’s men’s soccer team will continue its in a passionate rivalry against the Canisius Griffins at home on Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. This game will be the last chance for the senior players to show the Griffins what they’ve got.
“I am very excited to play the Griffins and hope to make it the best one yet as it will be my last time playing them,” says Purple Eagle Desmond Betteto.
“Not only are the Griffins our rivals but every game is so important during conference play … ” he says.
