Freedom Comes in a Little Purple Bus

You slide into the cool leather seat as that generic new car smell abruptly takes over your senses. Snapping back into reality, you remember that you are a freshman or maybe even an upperclassman and you, in fact, do not have a car, let alone those leather seats. Luckily, NU has options, one of which the NU Express.

This little purple shuttle gives students a way to get out into the community to get involved, (or, let's face it, maybe just go shop). Students get the chance to get out there when ways of transportation are pretty slim. And it couldn't be any more accessible: the bus picks up passengers in front of Gallagher Center every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

As freshman Erin Willard puts it, It's a transportation system that can take you where you want to go.

What's the best part? It's a completely free, air conditioned, mini coach style bus. This means you get free transportation and comfort “ probably one of the best deals you'll get in college.

An opportunity to actually get out on the weekends, the NU Express arrives at Gallagher Fridays at 4 p.m. and Saturdays at 2 p.m. Both days it runs until 11 p.m. Sunday's pickup starts at 1 p.m. and estimated time of arrival back on campus is 6 p.m.

The chance to go almost anywhere in Western New York, like the Target Plaza, area restaurants, even the Galleria Mall (exclusively on Sundays) is just sitting there waiting for you.

Who would've thought you can get so much accomplished in a weekend?

From grocery shopping to shoe shopping, multiple stops a day get errands crossed off your list fast. You get about 90 minutes to two hours at one place, then you get back on the shuttle and return to campus. The shuttle picks up the next batch of shoppers that want to go to a different venue. Students feel free to stay on the bus all day. Re-entering the bus to get to a different store or restaurant is definitely allowed.

Referring to the driver, as well as the overall atmosphere, Nicole Ciaccia thought it to be really friendly and welcoming.

The NU Express is a free shuttle that is there to help you experience the Western New York area. Any student can get on. Even if you do have a car, save some gas and bring a friend! Schedules with pick up/drop-off times are posted in the Lower Level of Gallagher Center, so stop by and pick one up.

Most importantly as one freshman put it make sure you're back on the bus in time!
