New twist to the cocktail world
Ever have the sudden urge to drink bacon?
It might sound crazy, but you can. Just order yourself a bacon martini.
It is believed that the creation of the bacon martini happened (where else?) in Las Vegas at the Double Down Saloon, which prides itself in being an abstract, grungy bar that is open 24-7 and ready for anything. It's logo is of a skeleton holding a martini glass above its head. The interior walls of the bar are painted with tons of different creepy characters.
The bacon martini is described as having a salty, smoky flavor.
If you are an adventurer of sorts in the cocktail world, you can make it at home and try it yourself.
A bacon martini is made by spraying a martini glass lightly with some vermouth. The edge of the glass is rimmed with bacon grease.
In a cocktail shaker, about 3 ounces of bacon infused vodka is mixed in with a dash of Tabasco sauce, and a dash of olive juice.
Everything is shaken and strained into a prepared martini glass.
The excess bacon fat is skimmed off the top and the drink is ready to be served with a strip of bacon as garnish.
If you would rather have the professionals make this cocktail for you, The Double Down Saloon franchise has opened another bar in NYC. So, if you ever find yourself in Las Vegas or NYC with time to spare, make your way over and try this crazy concoction.
This drink has even become so talked about that other bars and restaurants have taken the idea and put their own twist to it. Like at the Capitol Club in Seattle, which makes a chocolate bacon martini for anyone who likes it sweet. They use candied bacon vodka and mix it with Godiva chocolate liqueur and just a splash of cream.
Just remember, you must be 21 or older to drink.
