The Niagara University Student Government Association was elated to announce its monetary donation of $5,000 at the Somali Prime Minister's arrival on Monday, Sept. 28.

Dr. Abdiweli Ali, a Niagara University associate professor in the College of Business, informed the NU community just how critical the current state of Somalia is.

The monetary donation that NUSGA provided gave to Mission Somalia “ Niagara 2011 supports Niagara University's promise to provide donations and to educate students on the severity of the trouble in Somalia. This marked the first of NUSGA's donations for the 2011-12 school year.

In support of the students and their respective clubs and organizations, NUSGA accepts and reviews donation requests throughout the school year. These donations offer clubs and organizations more opportunities to execute programs and events that may not be financially possible without fiscal assistance.

In order to ask for a donation, the interested club or organization must send a donation request to the NUSGA cabinet treasurer. From there, the donation is discussed in the weekly cabinet meeting. Finally, a representative from the interested club will speak in front of the NUSGA legislative body. At that point, the delegations will ultimately come to a decision on whether the donation request has been approved or denied.

NUSGA always welcomes donation requests in order to assist groups in the Niagara University community in achieving their highest potential.

Students can contact any NUSGA cabinet member with questions about the specific process.
