Cody's Food Bit: More than a 'Bit' of taste

With its stunning view of the Niagara River and calming, friendly ambience, Water Street Landing raised my expectations when I arrived at the Lewiston restaurant.
The Landing offers a couple distinct options for diners. The main dining room features tempting fare such as macadamia encrusted sea bass and stuffed filet of sirloin with beet risotto and a vermouth-butter sauce. The Patio (open throughout the summer) and the "River SideBar" (open year-round) offer fresh, casual dining with personality.
For this week's Bit, I decided to try the casual side (obviously the more college-budget-friendly option).
I started with the crab cake sliders ($10) with sriracha-laced aioli. Sriracha hot chili sauce, a purÃ©e of fresh red jalapeÃ±os, garlic powder, sugar, salt and vinegar, is easily one of my favorite condiments.
I couldn't get enough of these fun-sized crabby patties. The warm, flavorful crab cake would have been excellent on its own, but the other components brought the dish to an even higher level. The soft roll contrasted nicely with the bed of crisp coleslaw. I chose the sweet potato fries as a side. They were well seasoned, crispy, and tasted authentic.
The Bavarian ($9), one of the burger creations offered on the menu, is a play on the combination of a warm pretzel with mustard. It sounded excellent to me and tasted even better. I savored the sweet Guinness caramelized onions, and grainy mustard on the tasty pretzel roll.
The dessert options sounded promising, as did stopping at DiCamillo's Bakery or Orange Cat Coffee on the way back to campus. If you have too much too eat and find yourself temporarily immobile, nearby porch swings overlook the river and are the perfect "landing" before trekking back to campus.
It's safe to say that this Water Street establishment backed up its breathtaking view with creative, fresh cuisine.
