Who's that girl? It's Jess!'
If you sang that line in your head, it is obvious that you are a fan of FOX's new hit show New Girl.
If you have no idea what is going on, shame on you.
Zooey Deschanel stars as Jess, a quirky-yet-relatable 20-something girl, in the instantaneously popular comedy series. After a bad break-up, Jess is in desperate need of new roommates. Following a quick Internet search, she finds herself completing the group of three young guys.
Now you are probably thinking typical. A cute girl moves in with all guys. First, the guys hate her. Then, they live happily-ever-after. The end.
Well, somewhat wrong. Jess's unusual and bizarre habits for a pretty young woman like herself make her one of the most interesting characters on television. If she is not burning her hair on the curling iron, then she is probably starting a slow motion chicken dance at a wedding.
Deschanel is single-handedly proving to audiences that female characters in a role such as hers can be funny, down-to-earth and lovable without relying on sex appeal to obtain high ratings.
Jess's uncharacteristic ways of dealing with problems land her in awkwardly entertaining scenarios that are only amplified by her three sidekicks. For example, the guys talk Jess into finally visiting her ex's house to take back all of her belongings, including the main reason behind the trip: her flat screen TV.
After driving around the block nearly eight times, she finally parks the car and marches into the house. To support her, Jess's roommates stand on her ex's front lawn, each one wearing one of her hats while they harass him into removing the shirt on his back, which belongs to Jess.
Although the boys are constantly raising eyebrows at the unusual things that Jess says and does, each one of them has his own unique story to add to their little family.
Feeling intrigued? You should take a break from homework tonight and catch up with the effortlessly hilarious roommate “ It's Jess.
After a three-week baseball break, New Girl airs its next new episode of the season at 9 p.m. Tuesday on FOX. You can watch the first few episodes online at on www.fox.com/new-girl.
